Thank you for visiting our website. You have taken an important first step in your child's health screening and screening for school readiness. The Wellness Check for School Entry, (formally known as 3 year old Wellness Clinic), is a FREE program designed to identify any health and developmental concerns well before your child starts school. With this program many community partners work together to deliver a thorough health and developmental screening for your child. These sessions are offered in October and November annually in community settings such as a school or community hall.
The screening session generally takes 1 and ½ hours and involves visiting different stations that will test your child's hearing and speech, vision, dental status, developmental milestones, etc. There will also be community representatives on hand to discuss community resources that families can access as well as representatives from the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board.
Why screen at age 3?
At age 3 children are really starting to explore and become aware of their surroundings. This is a particularly opportune time to make sure a child's vision or hearing and speech is developing on track, in addition to other developmental milestones. If there is a problem identified there is still ample time before the child starts school to correct or work on any identified issues. This ensures your child has the best possible start to school.
